Fourth showrunner for Designated Survivor

Despite the mounting writers' toll, Kiefer Sutherland drama looks likely for a second season.

US drama Designated Survivor is on the hunt for its fourth showrunner.

Jeff Melvoin replaced Jon Harmon Feldman, who replaced original showrunner Amy B. Harris when it was picked up to series.

Melvoin will stay on as an executive producer and help train the new showrunner for what is expected to be a second season renewal.

The Hollywood Reporter notes logistically, Designated Survivor is a difficult show. Production takes place in Toronto; the writers’ room is in Los Angeles; and (creator David) Guggenheim is based in New York. Kiefer Sutherland, who executive produces the series, is highly involved in the show’s creative and effectively approves each script before it is finalised alongside Guggenheim.

The good news is with Netflix having made a multiple-season deal with ABC Studios a second-season is all but a done deal.
