Hamish & Andy to hear True Stories for the very first time

A memorable incident is regaled to Hamish & Andy who then re-enact it with a cavalcade of Aussie stars.

Nine has now revealed details of True Story with Hamish & Andy, after rolling out first promos during the Logies.

The deceptively-simple concept is an original format in which the duo sit down in the studio with everyday Aussies who have a particularly memorable tale, sometimes elaborate and sometimes simple.

The subjects were sourced by Hamish and Andy’s production team without divulging their story to the duo until the cameras are rolling in studio.

“We heard them for the first time which is daunting for us,” Andy Lee said this morning. “But we hear these amazing tales and then we paused them there, went away and scripted them for 4 months and cast them with 138 speaking roles in 10 different worlds.

“This is everyday Australians’ chance to have their bio-pics, brought to life,” he teased.

“We’ve seen a lot of true crime re-enactments and devastation re-enactments but we thought ‘Why can’t it be a funny version?'”

“We just feel that the lighter side of life, awkward and embarrassing stories is what connects us as humans. It was so much fun hearing these stories and even more bringing them to life,”  Hamish Blake added.

A roll call of actors will see Craig McLachlan, John Wood, Kat Stewart, Richard Davies, Glenn Robbins in guest roles.

The half hour series is expected to launch 5 episodes in June with a further 5 later this year.

  1. This sounds fun! It will make me actually watch something on Nine for the first time in forever. As Cass81 said, at least something local is being made that isn’t a bloody reality show!

  2. Definitely something a bit different and out of the box. Regardless of whether you like Hamish and Andy, I’m all for supporting the networks when they try something different and this looks like it could be good. At least it’s not another dating reality show.

  3. Not that any idea is really new anymore, but from three years ago: aboveaverage.com/watch/storytime/
(Which is all just a variation on Drunk History.)

  4. Based on the promos we’ve seen, we thought this looked like a variation of Drunk History, but without alcohol (which could affect parental rating/timeslot) and infinite resources of personal stories rather than retelling historical events.

Definitely interested to see the final product.

  5. It sounds fresh and entertaining! Bit annoyed that 9 feel the need to only show the first 5 and hold off the following 5. This new trend of only showing a limited number of a filmed season (of anything) is annoying!

  6. I think this will be interesting & i could see this format being sold around the world.
Good on the boys & Nine for trying something new. Let’s see how long Seven takes to knock it off.
