“It was a risk giving me the part”

Study, study, study if you want to bag yourself a Graham Kennedy Award for Outstanding Newcomer.

On Sunday Barracuda star Elias Anton won the Graham Kennedy Award for Outstanding Newcomer at the Logie Awards for his screen debut as a troubled high school swimmer.

For those looking to follow in his footsteps, Anton attributes his success to drama classes and the faith of casting directors.

“It was a risk giving me the part considering it was the lead. There was a lot of people going for it, so they did have a lot of options,” he told TV Tonight.

“I was doing local classes for a few years, when I started. I did a year’s course at NIDA at a Sunday school in Melbourne when I was in Year 11. It was later that year when I started shooting Barracuda.

“I did a little bit of Neighbours afterwards but I have a film coming out called Australia Day on Foxtel. I can’t wait to see what they’ve done with that.”
