Report: UK deal secures Neighbours future

Unconfirmed reports a new UK deal will cover the next 4 years for Aussie soap.

The future of Neighbours seems to have been secured with news that a deal has reportedly reached between Channel 5 in the UK and FremantleMedia.

According to The Mirror, a deal has been reached covering the next 4 years.

It follows news that parent company Viacom failed to recognise the social history of the series with British viewers, triggering headlines and a petition topping 22,000 signatures.

In the end it may have been a strategy as part of contract negotiation.

Either way, it’s good news for the Aussie soap if it proves to be true.

Both Channel 5 and FremantleMedia both declined to comment.

  1. Maybe Viacom could buy Network TEN. I think that would make sense for TEN because they cant survive without foreign owners. Viacom or CBS sounds like a good fit, as for Neighbours staying on air in UK it sounds good gives them some more time. Although there time could be numbered too.
