Roseanne revival coming?

Roseanne Barr, John Goodman & Sara Gilbert onboard for possible sitcom revival.

In news nobody expected, Roseanne is eyeing a comeback.

Roseanne Barr, John Goodman and Sara Gilbert, are onboard for the 8-episode project, which is currently being shopped to US networks.

Sara Gilbert, currently presenting on The Talk, will executive produce with original exec producers Barr, Tom Werner and Bruce Helford.

Netflix is rumoured to be one of the potential suitors, following its success with revivals of The Gilmore Girls and Full House. Revivals of The X-Files, Will & Grace, and Twin Peaks are also confirmed.

Roseanne ran from 1988-1997 and won four Emmys throughout its run.

Next stop, Family Ties?

  1. The only way I see this working is if they openly retcon the final season (or at the very least, the final episode) and do it as a “reunion” rather than a continuation. Personally, a one-off reunion episode would probably work better than a full series, but it will interesting to see how this plays out. Roseanne was one of my favourite shows growing up 🙂

  2. This makes even less sense than usual, given that the entire show was revealed to be a book that Barr’s character had written, where she changed bits that she didn’t like such as Dan dying and her daughters marrying the other Healy brother.

Let’s hope that this news is just the last chapter of her book and doesn’t really happen either.

  3. It’ll be interesting to see how they continue with it. At the end of the incredibly awful final season, Roseanne narrates that the past year had been fiction within her book as a way of coping, as Dan actually died when he had his heart attack in the previous season. She also stated that Becky was really married to David, and Darlene to Mark. In more recent interviews she has told where she thinks the characters would be today, saying that she would have lost the house and DJ would have died at war. If they want Johnny Galecki to come back, they’d most likely need to film over the summer break when he is on Big Bang hiatus.

  4. Johnny Galecki gets one million dollars an episode at Big Bang Theory so I doubt he will be coming back.
I hope Sarah Chalke gets the “Becky” job. She has a far higher profile than Alicia Goranson, and justifiably so.

    1. I’d bet that Galecki would come back if his BBT schedule would allow. He know what Roseanne did for him and in interviews I’ve seen with him, he is very loyal to her. Plus, it’s only 8 episodes…

      1. Yeah, I have had second thoughts. The “big 3” on BBT have recently given up money to benefit the “next 2” and the “other 2” so Galecki might be willing to sign on for 5 or low 6 figures an episode, rather than his usual 7.
