Paul Clarke, Head of the Australian Delegation for Eurovision, has floated the idea of a National Final to choose our next Eurovision act.
Countries such as Sweden, the Netherlands and United Kingdom choose their representative in National Finals.
“We have to develop a culture where our best singers are willing to compete against each other,” he told ESCDaily.
“I think that’s going to take a little bit of learning.
“But I think it’s possible.”
It’s understood that this year organisers approached some A-list names to go to Ukraine, but there was a hesitancy to follow in Dami Im’s footsteps, given her roaring success.
However SBS and producers Blink TV also have other plans to lock down in addition to a potential National Final.
Last year they announced an Asia-Pacific Eurovision would take place in 2017, but no details about participants or dates have been confirmed.
In November managing director Michael Ebeid said, “It’s still very much a work in progress, I’m afraid.”

I would love to see a competition between our best singers/bands or whatever, thats a great idea but with their own choice of song for a Eurovision entry that the public vote on to send overseas. Instead of picking someone, more than likely the latest Voice winner etc singing a random song and they go represent Australia, but the Australian people don’t get behind it because its not a great song to begin with. It’s a song competition, who sings it is not what it is all about. A competition to select the best song would get people involved before Eurovision week, bigger audience would be invested, bring more viewers to the screen…
