Airdate: Sammy J’s Democratic Party

Sammy J has a new ABC comedy taking aim at Canberra politics.

Comedian Sammy J has a new ABC comedy Sammy J’s Democratic Party on the way.

The series (which comes without puppet sidekick, Randy), takes aim at Canberra politics and follows from his success with iview series Sammy J’s Playground Politics.

The series will debut episodes first on iview every Wednesday, ahead of its primetime broadcast the same day.

Sammy J’s Democratic Party is the panacea we need to get us through another winter of Australian politics. From low level thugs enforcing federal laws in Constitutional Cops, to the edge-of-your-seat excitement of the brand new game show Get Them to the Frontbench, there’ll be something for everyone in this weekly smorgasbord. Unless that person is Malcolm Turnbull.

Along the way, Sammy J will grapple with the problems faced by everyday Australians. How would he feel if a mosque was built on his street? Does he really want to know where his food comes from? And why won’t Robert Menzies answer any of his questions?

So pour yourself a drink, invite your local MP around and get ready to party like it’s 2017 – because democracy has never tasted sweeter.

Sammy J is an award-winning comedian, writer and musician. A proud nerd, he abandoned his law degree to travel the world and sing funny songs for a living. He has since performed in Edinburgh, Montreal, and every major Australian comedy festival. His album “Skinny Man, Modern World” received an ARIA nomination for Best Comedy Release, and he gained a national following with his satirical take on the 2016 Federal Election, “Sammy J’s Playground Politics”. His most recent solo show, “Hero Complex”, was nominated for Best Show at the 2017 Adelaide Fringe & Melbourne Comedy Festivals.

Wednesday 31 May first on iview, 10pm on ABC.

  1. Has this show been cancelled? or is it simply the end of its season? On Sammy J’s facebook page he wrote “It is with great sadness that I reveal I have been charged with trespassing on Commonwealth Land (specifically, a Commonwealth Bunker), and the Democratic Party has been taken off air by order of Malcolm Turnbull.
Before I engage my lawyers, I’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who watched the show, shared a link, or yelled “Party Under Parliament House” at me across the street. It’s been a massively fun two months and I’m going to miss the weekly deadline almost as much as I’ll miss working with the following Democratic Champions …”
