Former Packed to the Rafters star Angus McLaren is returning to television with a new role in Nine’s Doctor Doctor.
Production on Season 2 has commenced in Sydney with the return of Rodger Corser, Nicole da Silva, Steve Bisley, Ryan Johnson, Tina Bursill, Hayley McElhinney, Matt Castley, Chloe Bayliss, Charles Wu and Belinda Bromilow.
McLaren, who will feature in the upcoming movie Hotel Mumbai, will play ‘a charismatic ex-army medic Dr. Toke, who has Penny (Hayley McElhinney) in his sights.’ He becomes the fourth of the Rafters family in a 2017 Nine drama, following Jessica Marais, Hugh Sheridan and Michael Caton.
Brittany Clark (Shortland Street) also joins the cast as Mia, Whyhope’s straight-talking nurse.
A press release indicates series two sees Hugh (Rodger Corser) ‘determined to live out his probation in peace. However there is no peace in Whyhope. Relationships will be tested; with an election scandal, a kidney transplant and a wedding on the horizon. The dysfunctional Knight family faces a tough decision: will their struggles bring them closer together or tear them apart?’
Doctor Doctor is filmed in Sydney and country NSW and produced by Essential Media & Entertainment for Nine with the assistance of Screen Australia and Screen NSW.
It is due to air on Nine later this year.

Some interesting points:
1) Angus McClaren before Rafters was in Ten’s old Children’s hit H2O Just Add Water (original series in the late 2000s)
2) Despite being a Sydney produced show, Rodger Corser and Nicole Da Silva are Melburnians (correct me if I’m wrong).
I suppose as always in acting though, go where the work takes you.
3) Odd to see so many ex-Nine (and Ten) personalities in recent years join Nine.
All starting with Deborah Knight in October 2011, let’s not even go there…
Rodger Corser was raised in Melbourne but has lived in Sydney for a number of years. Actors and personalities shift networks all the time, Australia has a small industry.
He’s one of my fav Aussie actors.
Loved him in Rush.
Sad that Ten axed it in 2011 after 4 years, those ratings would be considered good now.
Angus McClaren also had an earlier role in Neighbours where he played Jamie Clarke, the teenage son of the iconic Des and Daphne Clarke.
