Daytime Emmy Awards 2017: winners

Wins to General Hospital, Ellen DeGeneres and a Lifetime Achievement for ET's Mary Hart.

US soap General Hospital has won the Outstanding Drama Series awards at the 44th annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

Mario Lopez and Sheryl Underwood hosted the event at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium today, US time.

On the 20th anniversary of her famous coming out on Ellen, the Ellen DeGeneres Show won for Outstanding Talk Show / Entertainment while Steve Harvey won Outstanding Talk Show / Informative Host.

A Lifetime Achievement Award to longtime Entertainment Tonight co-anchor Mary Hart.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series: Scott Clifton, The Bold and the Beautiful

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series: Gina Tognoni, The Young and the Restless

  1. I’ve always been curious about these award shows. The Emmy for outstanding drama series goes to General Hospital but then the two leading gongs for Actor and Actress go to completely different shows. And it gets weirder. Emmy for Outstanding Writing goes to the team at The Young and the Restless. Wouldn’t logic say that if General Hospital won the major award then the other gongs would follow for the same program? I’ve noticed the same occurrence happen at the Oscars. I’d like to know your thoughts on this David.

    1. Acting gongs going different ways is readily understood, but it is harder to quantify writing or directing gongs awarded to shows other than “Best Drama.” Oscars Best Director usually aligns with Best Film, but not always. I reckon it comes down to different juries for each craft categories. As to the jury make up of Best Drama or Best Film that’s less clear and would depend on each organiser.
