Have You Been Paying Attention? on an all-time high

Ratings: HYBPA? eclipses MasterChef for TEN, on a night when all 3 reality shows pull a crowd.

Have You Been Paying Attention? pulled out its best ever figures last night on 876,000 viewers, and topped all three demos.

The show even eclipsed MasterChef for TEN, which was third in its slot behind The Voice and House Rules. But all three enjoyed decent crowds.

A Current Affair led for Nine in a timeslot that saw The Project compete with Home and Away.

Seven Year Switch lifted from 484,000 last week to 519,000 but it’s still a lukewarm number for its timeslot.

The return of Lip Sync Battle and Prison Break were both modest.

Much of ABC’s audience stayed with the channel from 7:30 to Media Watch.

Nine won in primary channel shares but multichannels helped Seven Network win Monday with 27.5% then Nine 26.7%, TEN 21.8%, ABC 18.3% and SBS 5.7%.

Seven News pulled 1.08m / 1.06m for Seven then House Rules (901,000), Home and Away (759,000), The Chase (711,000 / 450,000), Seven Year Switch (519,000) and Ramsay’s Hotel Hell (301,000).

Nine News was #1 with 1.13m / 1.08m for Nine followed by The Voice (1.05m), A Current Affair (917,000), Hot Seat (583,000 / 336,000) and Lip Sync Battle (471,000). Footy Classified was 154,00 in 3 cities.

Have You Been Paying Attention? (876,000) led for TEN followed by MasterChef Australia (868,000), The Project (709,000 / 454,000), TEN Eyewitness News (549,000) and Family Feud (424,000). Prison Break returned to 275,000.

ABC News (830,000), 7:30 (680,000), Australian Story (658,000), Four Corners (650,000), Media Watch (643,000) and Q&A (435,000) comprised ABC’s night.

On SBS it was a double 24 Hours in Emergency (168,000), SBS World News (139,000) and Hair Care Secrets (138,000).

Peter Rabbit bounded to the top of multichannels again with 235,000.

  1. I tried to watch HYBPA once, but I couldn’t tolerate the attempts to give smart-alec answers to straightforward questions. It was like they were trying to gain laughs, not play a game. I am bewildered at its popularity now.

  2. I watched HYBPA and I watch it because for an hour it is just laughs all the way. Sometimes they push the answers a bit but it’s not drama, just good humour.

  3. House Rules was in air for an hour for “judgment night” Fast forward adverts, rehashed content from the Teveal episode and the previous week I managed to skip through for 20 minutes maximum.
Disgusting that there was jess than 20 minutes of new material repackaged!

  4. I was able to stream HYBPA on my Freeview app. However, my wifi connection (with Carrier on) was quite slow during the night. This show has shown an improvement in ratings.

  5. Honestly couldn’t have foreseen that a show doing dysmal in its Sunday airings, tweaked and moved to Monday nights and paired with MasterChef is now outperforming it.

    1. Sometimes you have to stick with a show to build it, and Working Dog knows it. They launched the show softly in summer, no press. TEN has pretty good form in sticking with brands such as Project to build them up. I wonder if This Week Live would now be coasting along if it had not been surrounded by so many flops?

  6. Much of ABC’s audience have PVR’s, the time shifted figures will give a truer account. Has anyone been paying attention to HYBPA variable ratings over the years and found any correlation? Any game show that can be repeated in prime-time is a valuable asset.

    1. Don’t think many PVR Q&A. Everything is repeated in primetime, not just a game show. Singing, renovations, cooking, “relationship” shows, etc., but HYBPA has a limited shelf life due to its news-type content, unlike the others. It’s a ‘game show’ with no car at the end of the night, or any prize, so would be relatively cheap. As we often see though, the least expensive can often do much better than the most expensive.

    2. As an example, my in-laws had to upgrade their TV to get digital. They weren’t tech-savvy enough to work out how to buy a PVR to go with it, so now they never record anything. They have barely managed to work out how to use iView on the smart tv, and if any little thing goes wrong they just don’t watch. In some ways, tech has reverted them back to a pattern of needing to watch shows at time of screening. They did more recording and time-shifting when they had a video recorder.

  7. Not surprised with Prison Breaks numbers, 9:40 was just too late, we struggled to stay awake for it & was left underwhelmed, it just seemed rushed. I felt that one episode should have been three, no build up, no gap filling just boom- waay too much happening in one ep

      1. On those figures, it’s not going to get time-massive drop in numbers from ‘Have…’ and it’s likely to lose more viewers from now given the poorly received 1st ep-a strange decision to put it on so late given 10 did promote it so heavily-could see it being bumped later to 10.40 or so replacing the repeat of ‘Elementary’.
