Modern Family is amongst US shows that have won renewals in the US.
The hit comedy has been renewed for Seasons 9 and 10 at ABC, each still at 22 episodes. Cast are believed to have attracted hefty salary increases.
“We are beyond thrilled that we get to spend more time with these characters, these amazing actors, our ridiculously talented writers and our incredible crew — all of whom are like family to us. And the good kind of family, not the kind that argues with you all the time,” co-creator / co-showrunner Steve Levitan said in a statement.
“Modern Family has been the centerpiece of our comedy brand for eight seasons and we are thrilled to have it on our schedule for two more years,” said ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey. “Steve and Chris have created such endearing characters, and the cast is second-to-none.”
Modern Family has become a long-running brand in Australia for TEN, now set to continue.
Elsewhere Blindspot has been renewed for a third season. Season Two has been down on the 11.7m viewers of Season One, but still respectable at 7.4 million viewers. The series, which screens in Australia on Seven, includes Aussie actor Sullivan Stapleton.
Meanwhile Dick Wolf’s Chicago franchise has won renewals for three titles: Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D.
Chicago Fire averages 10.8 million viewers, Chicago P.D. is pulling 10.1 million viewers and Chicago Med is averaging 9.9 million viewers.
They air variously across Seven, FOX8 and Nine in Australia.
