Youth-skewing network The CW released its Upfronts trailers late this week, and gets points for being the longest videos of all.
The pick of the bunch appears to be Life Sentence which stars Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) and makes some interesting choices.
No such luck for Dynasty.
Life Sentence
The light hourlong centers on a young woman (Hale) who, after being diagnosed with terminal cancer, finds out that she’s not dying after all and has to learn to live with the choices she made when she decided to “live like she was dying.”

Valor
The boundaries between military discipline and human desire are tested at a U.S. Army base that houses an elite unit of helicopter pilots trained to perform clandestine international and domestic missions. The drama unfolds in the present as well as in flashbacks to a failed mission involving one of the first female pilots in the unit, ultimately uncovering layers of personal and government/military secrets and leading to a seasonlong plan to rescue a group of MIA soldiers.

Black Lightning
Cress Williams stars as Jefferson Pierce, the hero who hung up his suit and his secret identity years ago. But with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.

Dynasty
A modern take on the classic soap that follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and their children. The series centers on two women at odds: Fallon Carrington, daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington (Grant Show), and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal (Nathalie Kelley), a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class. The drama also promises to expose “the dark underbelly” of the one percent: a corrupt world built on backroom deals, betrayal and, in some cases, murder.

Dynasty looks like it has totally missed the mark. The actors look wooden only Grant Show & Alan Dale looks like the only ones who can act.
Life Sentences and Valor look great. Well done CW.
Didn’t even try Black Lightning. I finally managed to give up the disappointing for years Flash and Arrow and don’t want to go back.
