After a bad day in the press MasterChef finished third in its slot last night, despite 861,000 being a good number for TEN. It was beaten by The Voice at 1.11m and House Rules on 874,000, up on last Monday’s episode.
But there was better news with Have You Been Paying Attention? enjoying its best season premiere at 839,000 viewers -well up on 2016’s 684,000. Encouragingly, the show also topped every demo. While it wasn’t quite head to head, it hurt Seven Year Switch which under-performed for Seven.
Nine News and A Current Affair, which was particularly strong, both won their slots.
Outside of News Australian Story was best on ABC.

To be fair, MasterChef and The Voice are older formats compared to House Rules.
Yet House Rules has been averaging much less.
David, did you have any ideas as to when Hell’s Kitchen will be on?
Nothing advised, but I doubt it would go against MasterChef.
Assumed it was the xfactor replacement no ?
Shrugs… we know they had not revealed all for Q4, but the playout is undisclosed.
I hope Marco will be just like Gordon because to be honest that’s the only reason I watch that show is to see him treat the people like shit when they make a mistake lmao good viewing!
I really enjoyed House Rules Last Night, although nothing to spectacular I found it much more enjoyable than Predictable MasterChef and same-old The Voice
HYBPA is growing stronger every year.
Yeah, I agree that MasterChef is looking pretty tied and boring.
As a parent, I refuse to let my children watch Master Chef anymore after George’s despicable behaviour. Family viewing? I don’t think so, Ch 10!!!!!
LMAO
Hey David,
Is there a reason why you don’t post the second figure for News Breakfast anymore? I always see the / but nothing after it.
Fair question, but I can only work with what I am supplied. There is a second figure for ABC News channel which is too low for me to receive. the / is designed to indicate more rather than just left at one number. It’s not ideal I realise.
I’m actually wondering why you are posting figures for news breakfast at all. Its been well indicated that it is the policy of this site not to post figures for a show that’s been simulcast on two channels.
No. It’s a policy where numbers are merged.
I hate to say this, as I really enjoy it, but Masterchef is looking tired. You can pick (almost word perfect sometimes) what the judges are going to say and it just feels too much like the last two or three years.
While I know it’s a winning formula, I can’t help but think it needs something to freshen it up, perhaps even a new judge or two?
I agree. I watched the auditions, but won’t be watching it every night like I have in the past. It is the same old, same old. Needs an urgent makeover and also having a female judge would be a good start.
I agree with all this 100 percent, I am struggling to watch this series because it feels like there’s nothing new or fresh in it.
+2 in my house
Thought I would give Pacific Heat a chance last night, didn’t make the first ad break. Can understand why 600,000 switched off after HYBPA
Great to see Tom,Sam, Ed and the team back for another year!!
MasterChef & HYBPA is what my night looked like last night.
Brilliant shows!
Agree with you in relation to HYBPA, but Brilliant is not a word I would use to describe Masterchef. Predictable is the word I would use.
Predictable? I couldn’t have told you what was going to happen last night and I don’t remember seeing a home week before
Loved the boy george special . Interesting viewing . Here’s hoping they play the movie based on his life soon I once saw on pay tv , forget wat it was called . Awesome Movie and the guy who played him was spot on .
Great results for HYBPA, it was hilarious last night. Also good to see Seven Year Switch tanking. Here’s hoping for a similarly dismal result for The Resort tonight so the trend for this kind of rubbish ends soon.
