Ariana Grande concert increases security after London attacks

Concert in Manchester to screen Live to more than 50 countries, now "with greater purpose."

Ariana Grande’s One Love Manchester Concert was proceeding despite yesterday’s attacks in London, but with increased security.

Fans were urged not to bring any bags or rucksacks with them, not to drive and to expect to be searched.

Seven people were dead and 48 hospitalised, including 2 Australians, following two terrorism attacks in London yesterday. A van hit a number of pedestrians on London Bridge in the city centre just after 10pm local time. The attackers then fled on foot to Borough Market where they began stabbing people. Three terrorist attackers were shot dead by police.

Today’s concert in Manchester, to honour those affected by an incident 2 weeks ago was going ahead, with A-List pop stars including Coldplay, Justin Bieber, Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry & Take That.
The concert will be broadcast to millions of people in more than 50 countries across the world.

Ariana Grande said in a statement, “After the events last night in London, and those in Manchester just two weeks ago, we feel a sense of responsibility to honour those lost, injured, and affected.

“We plan to honour them with courage, bravery, and defiance in the face of fear. Today’s One Love Manchester benefit concert will not only continue, but will do so with greater purpose.

“We must not be afraid and in tribute to all those affected here and around the world, we will bring our voices together and sing loudly. I am pleased to say we have the full support of Greater Manchester Police and the government and are assured the safety of all those attending is the highest priority.

“All artists involved have been unwavering in their support this morning and are determined to carry on with the show. We ask the strong city of Manchester and the world to join us in making the statement that hatred and fear will never win. Today we stand together. Thank you.”

One Love Manchester aired Live in Australia on UKTV from 3:55am AEST and is repeated at 7:30pm.
Nine screened the concert Live on 9NOW and has a primetime broadcast at 8:40pm.
