Netflix has cancelled another original show after just one season, with Girlboss not proceeding to S2.
Writer Sophia Amoruso announced in an Instagram post, “I absolutely loved the show and am so sad it’s over. I am grateful for it all.”
The series, starring Britt Robertson, debuted in April based on the founder of fashion company Nasty Girl.
The decision comes weeks after the axe fell on Sense8 from The Wachoskis, and The Get Down from Baz Luhrmann.
CEO Reed Hastings recently suggested their hit ratio was too high.
“I’m always pushing the content team; we have to take more risk, you have to try more crazy things, because we should have a higher cancel rate overall,” he said.

Not surprising, given what happened to the subject.
I’m not sure how to interpret the final paragraphs, is Reed Hastings saying that Netflix is producing too many hit shows and needs to make some room for his arthouse content, if so this will mean Netflix producing more non mainstream type content which will likely only attract a limited audience. I hope this is not the case, the selections of Netflix originals are already quite diverse and variable in their quality and storyline, Netflix obviously can afford to make shows not commercially viable on FTA but it still has to keep its audience interested, making quirky, esoteric shows even trendy ones will turn numbers of viewers off and their icon will eventually disappear from remote controls.
Filed on this recently. Just search for his name it should show up.
Thanks, I missed that article, I would be curious to know whether the American market had been the primary business focus for Netflix production activity and now that growing international audiences are just beginning to matter for Netflix’s expansion plans the redistribution of funding to diversify their product list becomes necessary.
