House Rules tops reality battle but Nine claims Sunday

Ratings: It's a question of numbers: Seven News, House Rules & Sunday Night all score -but Nine wins the night.

Today is one of those days where a glance at the rankings would suggest one network won the night, but the result goes another way.

Seven News, House Rules and Sunday Night all eclipsed the competition, but the night went to Nine, including in primary channel share. How so? Even Seven’s late night offering seemingly ranked higher.

The answer lies in the start times. Nine’s Voice stretched out to at least 9:18pm while House Rules wrapped around 8:30pm. Both were ahead of MasterChef, down on last week.

Nine network inched ahead for a win with 31.2% over Seven 31.0% then TEN 16.7%, ABC 13.8% and SBS 7.3%.

Nine News (1.16m) led Nine’s night followed by The Voice (964,000) and 60 Minutes (812,000). Challenger Disaster: The Lost Tapes drew 312,000.

Seven News was #1 with 1.19m then House Rules (1.11m), Sunday Night (823,000) and The Suspects: True Australian Thrillers (373,000).

MasterChef Australia (737,000) was best for TEN followed by Modern Family (400,000 / 268,000), TEN Eyewitness News (365,000), Bull (338,000), Family Feud (282,000) and NCIS: LA (189,000).

ABC News (735,000), Poldark (457,000), Doctor Who (396,000) and Death in Paradise (309,000) comprised ABC’s night.

On SBS it was Treasures Decoded (377,000), SBS World News (225,000) and The Putin Interviews (205,000).

7TWO’s Coastwatch topped multichannels with 169,000.

  1. I watched this thing called “Commercials” last night on GEM.
They randomly interspersed it with a thing called a movie named “Se7en”.

  2. How about that, Nine managed to play the Challenger special on the 4th attempt.
Was a curious special how there was no narration or interviews, it was a compilation of old footage, nonetheless it worked well.

  3. Masterchef has gone back to old ways of favouring certain contestants, and not sure how they are the best cooks ever a lot of ordinary cooks,it’s too predictable now who will be eliminated due to the editing;BTW Tamara will win as she has the personality for TV etc,

  4. After Poldark the ABC claimed Death in Paradise was new but it was the first episode of season 4 even though there are episodes they haven’t shown.
