MasterChef leads the way for TEN

Ratings: TEN proved competitive on Tuesday thanks to MasterChef. David Stratton tops timeslots for ABC.

A lot more nights like last night and TEN would not be staring down the corporate barrel it faces today.

Last night it proved competitive with Seven and Nine, with MasterChef winning its slot and NCIS just ahead of both commercial opponents. In its ratings release today the network cited it was #1 in “6pm to 10.30pm in people 25 to 54 and under 55.”

MasterChef pulled 902,000 viewers and topped the demos beating House Rules (771,000), 7:30 (577,000) and 20 to One (526,000). Nine’s lacklustre numbers are the real story there but media attention is elsewhere today.

The other victory last night was ABC winning the 8:30 slot for the second night in a row with David Stratton’s Stories of Australian Cinema at 592,000, in front of NCIS, First Dates and Love Child (two of which were 8:40 starters).

Seven network won Tuesday with 27.7% then Nine 25.9%, TEN 23.0%, ABC 16.9% and SBS 6.4%.

Seven News was #1 with 1.14m / 1.05m for Seven then Home and Away (787,000), House Rules (771,000), The Chase (696,000 / 457,000) and First Dates (534,000). Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares was 257,000.

Nine News (1.05m / 1.04m) was best for Nine then A Current Affair (889,000), Hot Seat (578,000 / 339,000), 20 to One (526,000), Love Child (518,000) and Operation Thailand (288,000).

MasterChef Australia (902,000) won for TEN followed by The Project (636,000 / 461,000), NCIS (539,000), TEN Eyewitness News (520,000), Family Feud (437,000) and NCIS: LA (372,000).

ABC News (794,000), David Stratton’s Stories of Australian Cinema (592,000), 7:30 (577,000), Ask the Doctor (447,000), Foreign Correspondent (417,000) and Grand Designs NZ (252,000) comprised ABC’s night.

On SBS it was Great Continental Railway Journeys (362,000), Insight (238,000), SBS World News (146,000) and Dateline (131,000).

Shaun the Sheep shaped up well again on multichannels with 229,000.

The Morning Show: 131,000 / 75,000
Today Extra: 125,000 / 86,000
Studio 10: 76,000 /

  1. Awful Ep of House Rules last night, watched 10 minutes as it was enough to put me to sleep. But on the other hand, I am continually amazed at how good Wentworth is, same of the best performances I’ve ever seen on Aussie telly and it’s mainly women!!! Pamela Rabe and Kate Atkinson the standouts last night.

    1. As a diehard HR fan, I also watched 10 minutes then switched over to Masterchef. What a wasted opportunity for HR to put together a ‘best of’ show, but all they did was splice the reveals together. It needed commentary by the judges, analysis of why the room was a success, and remove all the footage of the homeowners crying and saying OMG.

  2. It should be worth noting that HR was a “Best Reveals” episode (which looked at the best reveals from prior years of the show). I am surprised at the high viewership it got for something that provided no new content for the current season.
