Misfits gets US pilot order

It's taken a long time, but America looks like getting an adaptation of Brit sci-fi after all.

America is proceeding with an adaptation of Misfits after all.

This was first mooted back in 2011 when Josh Schwartz (Chuck, Gossip Girl, The OC, The Carrie Diaries) stitched up the rights from creator Howard Overman.

It was eventually put into development with Freeform who has now ordered a pilot with Diane Ruggiero-Wright (iZombie, Veronica Mars) as showrunner, executive producing with Schwartz, Stephanie Savage plus Howard Overman and Murray Ferguson from the UK original.

Casting has also been announced with Ashleigh Lathrop (Sirens), Tre Hall (Ten Days in the Valley), Allie MacDonald (Orphan Black) and Jake Cannavale (Nurse Jackie), the son of Bobby Cannavale, in lead roles.

Misfits ran for five seasons from 2009-2013. No word who might take Australian broadcast rights as yet.

  1. Loved the UK version – a cult classic with a brilliant line up of charismatic actors.
Don’t hold out much hope for the US adaptation if turns out anything like their pale imitation of the UK Being Human….
