Netflix price rise

New subscribers to Netflix are set to pay more following the government applying a GST, which has been incorporated into a larger price hike.

But existing customers will also pay more after they receive a 30 day notice.

Existing subscribers:
Basic – (AU$8.99 per month) Watch on 1 screen in SD quality.
Standard – (AU$11.99 per month) Watch on 2 screens at a time with HD available.
Premium – (AU$14.99 per month) Watch on 4 screens at a time with HD and Ultra HD available.

New subscribers:
Basic – (AU$9.99 per month) Watch on 1 screen in SD quality.
Standard – (AU$13.99 per month) Watch on 2 screens at a time with HD available.
Premium – (AU$17.99 per month) Watch on 4 screens at a time with HD and Ultra HD available.

This marks the first price rise since the streaming service launched in Australia in 2015.

A Netflix spokesperson tells Fairfax, “In light of the upcoming GST increase, we will be rolling out updated plans and pricing starting June 28 in Australia. We will start sending existing members 30 day notices from June 29 onward.”

  1. Won’t affect me. My account was (mistakenly) setup as a US based one so they charge in USD anyway and when you load up the account with credit from NF gift cards the cost is hardly noticeable.
