Damon Lindelof is sticking with HBO for a small-screen adaptation of DC Comic The Watchmen.
It will be the second time an adaptation has been attempted by the cable giant, after an earlier plan in 2014.
Lindelof, who wrapped on the acclaimed Leftovers some months ago, will start his project from scratch.
The 1985 crimefighter characters by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons is set in the mid-20th Century leading to US victory in Vietnam and a Nixon presidency that stretched into the mid-1980s.
It has previously been adapted into a 2009 feature with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Patrick Wilson. Warner Bros is also developing an R-rated animated movie.
No deal is yet in place for the HBO project, which declined to comment.

Is this to be an animated series?, however it will be made it sounds expensive.
Fantastic. Definitely looking forward to more Watchmen.
I’m excited for anything Lindelof does now after The Leftovers. I’m absolutely on board with this.
Didn’t either SBS2 or ABC2 broadcast a “motion comic” version as well?
