Returning: Extreme Railway Journeys

Host Chris Tarrant is in Alaska, on SBS series.

Because you can never have too many train shows on the one network, SBS screens Extreme Railway Journeys from tomorrow.

The 5 part series begins with host Chris Tarrant in Alaska.

Television legend Chris Tarrant embarks on a series of adventures as he travels around the globe to experience the world’s most extreme trains. He’s thrown in the deep end as he meets drivers, engineers, local characters and his fellow passengers as he finds out how these extreme railways were built, how they’re kept running and how they change the lives of the local people they connect to civilisation.

Season Three, Episode One: Ice Train to Nowhere (Alaska)
Chris is in the Arctic to explore a railway which probably should never have been built: the Alaska Railroad. Constructed when the US’s largest state was barely populated, Chris finds out how and why it’s become such a success. Travelling at the tail end of winter with few trains, completing his journey to the end of the line in Alaska’s frozen interior isn’t going to be easy.

Wednesday, 14 June at 7.35pm on SBS.
