Not exactly the most enticing subject but no doubt Discovery’s documentary Mosquito covers important ground ….no pun intended.

Screening in 220 markets, this is narrated by actor Jeremy Renner (The Town, The Hurt Locker).

Mosquitos are the single greatest agent of death in modern human history. Today, rapid environmental shifts including climate change and the ease of international travel have increased the threat mosquitos pose by hastening their spread around the globe. These changes are bringing diseases like Zika, dengue and yellow fever to unprepared parts of the world, from Brazil to Florida to New York, putting millions of new lives at risk. Shot on four continents and featuring insights from some of the world’s leading experts – including Tom Frieden the former Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, leaders’ from the World Health Organization, along with Bill Gates – Mosquito gives a unique insight into this growing global pandemic.

This eye-opening documentary, narrated by Academy Award nominated actor Jeremy Renner (The Town, The Hurt Locker), is a call to action for the enormous international efforts required to stop the spread of diseases by this insidious insect across the globe. Examining the unique biology of the mosquito, this special reveals the mosquito’s uncanny ability to adapt to and overcome efforts to control it – presenting new and potentially controversial methods of eliminating the danger they pose.
