Call for Entries: Hive Lab

Adelaide Film Festival initiative supports new TV projects ahead of an ABC screening.

The Adelaide Film Festival has opened entries for its Hive Lab a 3 Day workshop.

The Hive Fund includes TV projects which premiere at the festival ahead of an ABC screening.

Adelaide Film Festival CEO and Artistic Director Amanda Duthie said “With the announcement of the 2018 ADL Film Fest to follow the upcoming 2017 edition, we are thrilled to also be able to renew the life of the development and investment elements of Hive. The ongoing support from all Hive partners Australia Council for the Arts, ABC Arts, Screen Australia and the South Australian Film Corporation is invaluable.”

“Hive is a unique initiative that continues to uncover exciting new screen talent by bringing together creatives from the arts and film. The international success of Tender, Spear and Girl Asleep is testament to the outstanding quality of the films that have been produced as part of the Hive program.  We are delighted to continue our partnership and I’m excited to see what the next round of talented artists will bring to our screens,” said Sally Caplan, Screen Australia’s Head of Production.”

Mandy Chang, ABC Head of TV Arts added, “By renewing the Hive initiative, the ABC and our partners have conveyed a firm commitment to making and programming daring, highly creative and boundary-breaking films, by some of this country’s finest artists. Hive is a rarity in our current media environment and the ABC are proud that this very special initiative, supported by strong partners, has uncovered some remarkable talent from across the arts. We look forward to seeing what gems the next round will uncover.”

 

Hive Lab #4 will be an intensive 3-day workshop during the 2017 ADL FF, bringing together artists from around Australia and from different backgrounds, disciplines and experiences.  With representatives from film, literature, the performing and visual arts participating and driven by a team of brilliant mentors from a number of disciplines, The Hive Lab invites practitioners from a variety of forms to gain insight into the creative processes of other media, and aims to inspire artists of all kinds to consider film as a creative outlet.

 

Australia Council for the Arts Chief Executive Officer Tony Grybowski said, “The Hive initiative provides an opportunity for artists to create new work by translating their non-screen work for a film-based audience in a collaborative environment.”

CEO of the South Australian Film Corporation Annabelle Sheehan said “We are truly proud to support the Hive initiative which has produced such exceptional works of international acclaim. To now see the initiative continue with a fourth round is a true sign of success for what has become such an important and distinctively South Australian initiative. We look forward to welcoming the fourth round of Hive Lab participants at the ADL FF in October as they begin to forge new creative collaborations”.

The Hive Fund is a unique collaborative funding initiative designed to join Australian artists with filmmakers to collaboratively join forces across creative mediums to develop an innovative screen based project. This partnership is unique in the Australian cultural spectrum and it demonstrates the combined commitment by all the partners to support the pursuit of creative development, new cultural practices and innovative approaches in the arts and moving image sectors.
