Foxtel Not Now? Game of Thrones crashes new streaming service.

Foxtel Now says sorry after fans couldn't access the season return, but is yet to announce any refunds.

Foxtel has apologised to angry Game of Thrones fans who were unable to watch the show’s return on Foxtel Now, last night.

The newly relaunched streaming service, which was expecting a big subscriber uptake with the return of the series, was offline for most of last night.

While fans took to social media to vent their anger, Foxtel posted an apology in a Facebook post saying, “We are devastated that due to unprecedented demand, we are experiencing problems with our online services this evening. Obviously this comes at a time when so many of our customers are wanting to watch the first episode of season 7 of Game of Thrones.

“We can assure you that we are doing everything we can to resolve these problems.”

A spokesperson later nodded to HBO’s own crash in the US and Latin America, but it was of little comfort to Australian viewers who had been promised a legal and speedy access to the new series.

Foxtel spokesman, Bruce Meagher said tonight, “We are devastated that some customers experienced technical issues tonight. As was the case in the U.S. and Latin America, the unprecedented rush for a subscription just prior to the telecast, crashed the system. Foxtel engineers are working through the night to resolve the issue.

“It’s most unfortunate and we apologise to those affected. We are committed to resolving the technical faults immediately and together with our broadcast partners around the world, we are giving this the same degree of priority. We assure anyone impacted that they will be able to watch the first episode of Season 7 either On Demand or via one of our encore screenings throughout the week.

“We will continue to communicate with affected customers to ensure they are fully informed,” he said.

But so far Foxtel has not confirmed any refunds for aggrieved viewers, who inundated the service with complaints.

Foxtel says there are replays today at Midday, 9.15pm, on Wednesday at 1.20pm, Thursday at 10.10pm, Friday at 11.25am and Saturday at 8.30pm.

  1. I still have a VCR, dont go knocking that. lol. anyway Foxtel should have been better prepared, for starters this show is big so it wouldnt have takemn a genious to work it out. 2ndly the vitriol even with Foxtel stuffing up is still overblown. so what you cant see it at the same time there are catchup services too. Personally when people are using an app on their phones/tablets presumably this should not have happend. The comparison to the Sensis on the Project was kind of stupid, the Sensis fail was because it Website crashed, this is an app. The whole point of apps is so you dont have to watch it with other people and you can download it and sign up and watch it. its different.

  2. Yes, that would have been annoying, but people need to give Foxtel a break. Foxtel Now is a streaming service, and you have to be ready for anything when streaming.

  3. i tend to think they should’ve seen it coming that there would be a huge demand & last minute subscriptions, shows they seem to be a company who is a bit out of touch with their customer base & the latest trends.

  4. I’m pretty sure that this was an issue with their authentication system rather than playout as a whole bunch of people tried to subscribe in the 15 minutes before the show started.
