Ian Thorpe and Leisel Jones will commentate the World Swimming Championships for Seven later this month.
To be held in Budapest, Hungary, the World Swimming Championships will air live and exclusive on 7TWO from July 23.
Thorpe is Australia’s greatest Olympian, having won the most gold medals of any Aussie athlete. At age 15, he became the youngest male world champion when he won gold in the 400-metre freestyle at the World Championships – an event he went on to win 10 more gold medals at, the third highest of any swimmer.
Leisel Jones is regarded as one of Australia’s greatest breaststrokers. Jones boasts a successful swimming career as the first Australian swimmer to compete at four Summer Olympic games where she has won a total of nine medals.

As I recall, over the years none of the broadcasters in Australia have bothered with the diving section of the championships – I’m fairly sure in terms of medals swimming is the biggest Olympic sport in our history.
It would be extra cash for the diving and just not worth it for the ratings – the fact that the swimming is on 7Two shows that Seven doesn’t think even it’d outrate a standard main channel schedule.
Are Basil, Giaan and Nathan returning?
I will try to advise broadcast info later, which should detail.
Giaan won’t be there, she recently gave birth, she confirmed she wasn’t going at the trials…
I heard on Twitter that Basil Zempilas had a 3rd child.
Thanks all.
Basil will be there
The FINA World Championships actually began on the weekend with diving events which go for the whole of this week with swimming on next week. I don’t understand why Seven is only showing the swimming but no diving, not even on Plus7.
