Red Symons recovering after fall

Former Hey Hey star recovering after a lack of consciousness and hitting his head on the pavement.

Broadcaster Red Symons is recovering in hospital after taking a fall on July 5.

Symons, 68, said in a statement, “When walking home from the supermarket I experienced a sudden lack of consciousness.

“This resulted in a fall, with my head hitting the pavement.

“I am currently in hospital, thankful to be receiving the best of medical attention and working on a speedy recovery.

“I’m sorry for this unexpected absence but I do look forward to getting back to work as soon as possible.”

ABC radio manager Warwick Tiernan said there had been some concern the fall could have been caused by a stroke, but that was not the case.

He said the radio host was improving and hopes to be back on air soon.

The former Hey Hey it’s Saturday star made headlines last month was after comments made during a podcast interview with ABC’s Beverley Wang.

“I came across as racist and I was wrong in the way I conducted the interview,” he said later.
