Returning: Outlander

Outlander returns to SBS later this month for its second season.

Outlander returns to SBS later this month for its second season, which has already screened on Pay TV.

Season 2 features episodes in France, and whilst it doesn’t have the harrowing scenes that ended Season One, it’s not without some challenging drama themes. I’ll just leave it at that.

It will follow the return of Versailles, kicking some drama goals on SBS.

In the first season of this romantic drama series, Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married combat nurse from 1945, is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743 Scotland. Immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened, she ignites a passionate relationship that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Series Two, Episode One: Through A Glass Darkly
At the end of season one, Claire and husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) set sail for France following a harrowing encounter with Black Jack Randall in the 1700s. The new season opens somewhere else entirely – back in Scotland in 1948, with a distraught Claire reuniting with her first husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies), desperate to learn the outcome of the infamous Battle of Culloden, to see whether she and Jamie had succeeded in changing the course of history.

10:40pm Thursday July 27 on SBS.

  1. Woohooo!!!! FTA is looking on the up & up, Versaille, Outlander, Micalleff, only taken 8 months into the year, plus GOT & that new one I don’t know the name of on SBS streaming, Yessss!!!

    1. Yeah, like the weather (at least in Perth), we’ve had a long summer (mostly banal mediocre TV) but now it’s picking up for winter.

Agree with all of those. I’m guessing that the SBS On Demand one is The Handmaid’s Tale. I feel that it’s definitely good enough to score a broadcast spot so perhaps it will be given one on Wed or Thu later this year.
