Sunshine opens Series Mania in Melbourne

Members of Melbourne's South Sudanese community praise upcoming SBS drama at its World Premiere screening.

Cast and crew from upcoming SBS drama Sunshine attended the World Premiere screening at ACMI in Melbourne, last night.

The event officially kicked off the opening of the Series Mania TV festival, being held across the weekend.

In attendance were ACMI CEO Katrina Sedgwick, Film Victoria CEO Jenni Tosi, Series Mania François-Pier Pelinard-Lambert, SBS Managing Director Michael Ebeid, SBS Director of Content Marshall Heald, SBS Drama Exec Sue Masters, Essential Media producer Ian Collie, SPA CEO Matthew Deaner, actor Wally Elnour, writers Matt Cameron & Elise McCredie and cultural consultant Ez Eldin Deng.

Amongst the largely-industry audience there were many members of Melbourne’s South Sudanese community who were full of praise for seeing positive representations on screen.  The series debuts on SBS in October.

Series Mania has a sell-out crowd for its Vince Gilligan session on Sunday as the creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul speaks and there is a host of free screenings across the weekend.
