The L Word sequel in development

Original L Word cast plan to executive produce a sequel to their 2004 lesbian drama.

Showtime is developing a sequel to The L Word, the lesbian melodrama which screened from 2004 to 2009.

Series creator Ilene Chaiken, who is currently showrunner on Empire, is on board as an executive producer. A search is underway for a new writer to serve as showrunner and for ‘a fresh take’ on the concept.

Original stars Jennifer Beals (Bette), Kate Moennig (Shane) and Leisha Hailey (Alice), will also executive produce and appear on screen if the project moves ahead, connecting with a new ensemble of women.

Other characters from the original series (Dana), Laurel Holloman (Tina), Mia Kirshner (Jenny), Sarah Shahi (Carmen) and Pam Grier (Kit) could potentially appear.

If the project surfaces this one would screen in Australia on Stan.

  1. Only the first 2 seasons were shown on FTA 7-there was a sequel series set in a prison as referenced below-hardly a spoiler to say some principals died in a series almost 10 years old now-many of the cast haven’t been doing anything much in the intervening years so you can see why they’d be pushing this.
