US actor John Heard, best known for Home Alone, The Sopranos & Prison Break, has died, aged 72.

He was found in a hotel and was pronounced dead on the scene on Friday night.

“The Medical Examiner performed and completed an autopsy this morning. The cause of death has not been determined, pending the Medical Examiner conducting further testing, including toxicology which can take anywhere from three to four weeks.” There was no evidence of foul play.

Heard had “minor back surgery” earlier last week and was recovering at the hotel in California.

Heard began his career in the 1970s. Hist famed roles included Macaulay Culkin’s father in the Home Alone movies in the 1990s, a love interest in Beaches and the rival to Tom Hanks’ in Big which both hit the big screen in 1988.

He started out acting off-Broadway. His first major role came in the romantic comedy Chilly Scenes of Winter in 1979.

Film credits included Cutter’s Way, Cat People, C.H.U.D., After Hours, The Trip to Bountiful, Heaven Help Us, The Milagro Beanfield War, Gladiator, Awakenings, Radio Flyer, and The Pelican Brief.

TV credits included The Client, The Sopranos, Jack & Bobby, Prison Break, NCIS: Los Angeles, Macgyver, Mistresses, CSI, Entourage, Southland, Numb3rs, SI: Miami, Modern Family, APB and Outsiders.

  1. The day before yesterday, I had a chance of watching Home Alone. John Heard played Peter McCallister as the father of Kevin (Macaulay Culkin). RIP John Heard.
