Ad revenue dips in latest figures

The Total TV ad revenue market for the six months to June 30, 2017 declined 2.7%, including FTA & STV.

ThinkTV has released the latest Total TV advertising revenue figures for the six months to June 30, 2017 and the 12 months to June 30, 2017.

From this year the new marketing body chaired by Russel Howcroft releases a Total TV metric which includes metropolitan and regional revenues from Nine, Seven and TEN, as well as MCN / Foxtel and SBS plus long-form AVOD (advertising-funded video on demand).

“The Total TV ad market remains strong with over $4.2 billion invested in the last 12 months.

“Advertisers and agencies recognise the premium content that multi-platform TV provides gives brands powerful reach and scale, all in a brand safe environment. Plus, TV delivers a far more superior return on investment than any other media,” ThinkTV Chief Executive, Kim Portrate, said.

The Total TV ad revenue market for the six months to June 30, 2017 declined 2.7% to $1.98 billion. The linear TV market showed a decrease of 3.19%, to $1.94 billion, compared with the previous corresponding period, while AVOD revenue jumped 27.6% to $40 million.

Over the full financial year, the Total TV ad revenue market was $4.21 billion, a decline of 2.7% compared with the previous period while the AVOD (advertising funded video on demand) market over the full year grew by 36.8% to $78 million.

Because the new number includes Foxtel, there is no longer a straightforward benchmark of how the free to air networks are travelling.

  1. I wonder how pleased an advertiser would be knowing his money is given away in the morning shows ,90,000 dollars this morning , without acknowledgment.Better to advertise with Google in targeted ads.

  2. “Advertisers and agencies recognise…” so much that they reduced spending on broadcast ads by 3.2% in 6 months while increasing spending on targeted advertising on the network’s internet sites. Very Howcroft to make bold statements, completely contradicted by the facts in their own press release! AVOD is now 2% of their revenue and growing.
