Andrew Denton diagnosed with heart disease, facing surgery.

Andrew Denton to undergo multiple bypass surgery after advanced heart disease diagnosis.

Renowned presenter Andrew Denton has been diagnosed with advanced heart disease and will be required to undergo multiple bypass surgery shortly.

Doctors have advised the former Enough Rope host to spend the rest of the year recovering from the major surgery, according to The Australian.

The diagnosis means he also has to withdraw from a campaign to legalise euthanasia, having founded Go Gentle Australia.

“He has recently been diagnosed with fairly advanced heart disease and will be undergoing bypass surgery shortly,” Gina McColl, Go Gentle Australia spokesperson told AAP.

Go Gentle Australia’s media director Gina McColl said Denton is “quite young and so the prognosis is extremely good”.

“It’s very successful surgery,” she said. “He needs to have it quickly but after that he’s expected to recover reasonably quickly and we’re expecting him to join the campaign again in early September, some time like that.

Denton is rumoured to have been developing a new interview program for a commercial network, reuniting with former ABC exec Jon Casimir.

Denton’s return to production is significant, given he had quit television in 2013. He has recently been consulting for Stan.
