Kathy Griffin sorry not sorry over Trump stunt

Comedienne takes aim at Sam Armytage calling her "full of crap" for asking interview questions.

Outspoken US comedienne Kathy Griffin is no longer sorry for her much-maligned stunt in May in which she held up a mask of Donald Trump which resembled a decapitation.

But she later apologised before a tearful press conference in which she protested about bullying and losing employment. Now having turned it into a comedy show, Laugh Your Head Off, she appeared on both Sunrise and Today to promote an upcoming tour.

But on Sunrise she insisted she was no longer sorry for her actions which, when questioned by Sam Armytage, made for awkward Live TV including telling the Sunrise host she was “full of crap” for her questions. Ouch.

As the interview moved to lighter fare Armytage was denied the chance to respond to Griffin’s name-calling, but did manage a right of reply by the end of the segment, saying she was there to ask questions.

“I know your type,” Griffin suggested. “I got your number. You’re like the white Trump voter in America.”

“No, that’s not fair, Kathy,” Armytage responded.

You can see that in the full video here.

Griffin also spoke to Today but it appeared to be far less volatile.

Griffin may have a point about the current sitting President but it hardly justifies her previous stunt, makes up for a non-apology or negates the right for fair questions.

  1. I find this satisfyingly ironic. Trump got to the White House by viciously degrading and tearing down his opponents and the press – in many cases underpinned by lies – all under the banner of not being politically correct. And now when someone opposing him does something outrageous there is an expectation that they should do the conventional/PC apology. Unless however we’re now living in the land of upside down where we look to our crude, potty-mouthed comedians for moral authority and comedy from the leaders of the free world.

  2. I think she was intentionally trying to score a bit of controversial advertising for her tour. I had to giggle when Sam used the ‘I am a journalist ‘line to her when 15 minutes before this she was giggling uncontrollably about a story on a wedding sausage.

    1. So Journalists cannot have a sense of humor now. In Kathy Griffins 3 interviews over the last few days it was only Sam who asked the tough questions so I guess that makes her a real journo. Go Sam

  3. She was also on The Project last night in a delayed one-on-one interview with Peter Helliar. I personally found it very awkward and even Peter’s smiles and giggles seemed fake. I don’t think her type of humour resonates with Australian humour. Meanwhile Hannah Gadsby’s interview had all panel members laughing.

  4. Not overly familiar with her work, but if you don’t like the questions, no need to attack the journalist (I don’t watch sunrise and don’t need to see the video). Kathy was the one who did the stunt originally, so being a public figure the question was fair based on previous actions.
