  1. Although I spent time watching HYBPA with guest quizmasters Zara Larsson and Michael James Scott, I found that TTNY was a more informative show. Karl developed a good rapport towards the individuals. Would like to catchup on the 1st episode on 9Now.

  2. jezza the first original one

Sam Dastyari’s ‘infomercial’ rated quite well on the ABC. Survivor is excellent, but it looks like ch9 have got the jump on all its rivals…

    • barrington bumbaclaart

How was it an infomercial? His book was never mentioned and the programme I watched was very balanced, put the boot into him and I thought he came away looking foolish, hypocritical and only sorry for getting caught and not for what he did. Did you even watch it?

  3. I am so bitterly disappointed in the performance of Survivor. It’s far better than any of the other reality offerings this year… it’s an absolute head scratcher. How a vapid, shallow show such as Ninja Warrior can rate it socks off… and same old same old Block can rate double Survivor is beyond my comprehension… I just hope the time shifted numbers will show that people are recording it… please give me that…

    • bettestreep2008

That was my first reaction too. But look at the demos. It is clear that the over 50s are dominating the remote controls on the TV sets connected to the people meters. Most under 50s are watching Survivor on their Ipads and mobile phones. And Ten and Eleven are repeating the shows the next day. And as for people like me – I do record it and watch them all on Friday night and skip all the ads. It is essentially a 40 minute show stretched out to 90 minutes.

      • @ bettestreep2008, I did the same last year, i.e. recorded each episode to watch later and strip out the adds and padding, but with so many hours to run through each week I lost interest and haven’t bothered to give it a look at all this season. If they cut it back to say 2, 1 hour shows a week i’d give it another go, but without proper editing i’m not interested.

I understand they want to place as many adds as they can and they could still do so by having the core show for 1 hour, then follow it up with a separate show, which has the long conversations and other padding that some fans enjoy. This way those of us who like our Survivor ‘American style’, could enjoy ‘a to the point’ story line and those that like the long version can hang around for another hour to get their extra fix.

  4. Never saw that coming! This Time Next Year and The Block rating so well. Didn’t bother even watching TTNY as I was put off by the promos. Would be interested in what others who viewed this program thought.

    • I found it pretty underwhelming – a poor man’s Australian Story that rushed through each guest’s back story and transformation like a cheap speed dating venture.
A few worthy participants who deserved much more competent coverage of their trajectory.
Not a fan of Karl anyway so that didn’t help.
Half an hour would be more than enough for this show also.

  5. thedirtydigger

Someone had better poke Seven with a stick …but they must be playing dead this week until they roll out Marco and Hell’s Kitchen. Let’s hope they haven’t given their two reality rivals too much of a head start though. It’s a risky business making that decision and I reckon Hell’s Kitchen would have performed well as – sorry – the new kid on the block on Sunday night. .

    • Agree Survivior is great. At least it’s not scripted like The Block. Stopped watching the Block about 4 seasons ago. You knew word for word what the contestants and Scott Cam were going to say next. So contrived, I lost interest years ago. Shame such low ratings for Survivor. Hopefully it will pick up.

    • I love it, no idea why lots aren’t watching, even doing a bit less than this time last year.

It’s a quality and exciting reality, new for Australia and great casting. Lapaglia is a great host.

I can only think not many older viewers watch Ten (in general/systemic), whereas Seven and also Nine tend to just attract viewers easier.

      Interesting times.
