Screenwest CEO to depart

Ian Booth to leave Western Australian screen body after a decade in the role.

Screenwest  Chief Executive, Ian Booth will leave the organisation at the end of the year, after a decade in the role.

Chair Janelle Marr said Booth had achieved much during his tenure and would be greatly missed.

“During his time as CEO, Ian has given an immense commitment and contribution to Screenwest and the screen industry. He has guided the agency and the Western Australian screen industry through a period of significant achievement and growth,” she said.

“We see the timing of Ian’s departure as positive. By December Screenwest would have delivered on the structural transition to an independent organisation, and the timelines enable a smooth recruitment and hand over process to a new CEO.”

Ms Marr mentioned Screenwest’s move to a not for profit structure, with more independence from Government, provides the Board of Directors and CEO with new opportunities to connect and partner with the business community, Federal departments, not-for-profit, philanthropic organisations and industry sectors.

Screen Producers Australia CEO Matt Deaner said, “Ian Booth’s vision for the Western Australian screen sector over the last ten years has yielded impressive results for the industry as a whole and has set a benchmark in growth and innovation for the sector.

“We at Screen Producers Australia thank Ian for his outstanding work in accelerating the development of the industry. His leadership has resulted in driving production values in Western Australian from $22 million to $69 million. We have also seen many of our member production companies grow and become successful under Ian’s tenure. Ian also needs to be applauded for his support for the emerging sector.”

The Screenwest CEO position will be advertised in coming weeks.
