2017 Bathurst 1000: guide

24/7 dedicated Bathurst channel switches onto FOX Sports 506 from October 2nd.

FOX Sports coverage of the Bathurst 1000 begins on October 2 when a 24/7 dedicated Bathurst channel switches onto FOX Sports 506.

There will also be new entertainment shows Bathurst Top 10 Shootout & Bathurst Heroes & Legends

The countdown is on. FOX Sports’ dedicated 24/7 Bathurst channel, on Foxtel, will return on October 2, delivering week-long entertainment and round-the-clock action from the most iconic event on the Virgin Australia Supercars calendar.

FOX Sports 506 will become the home of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, with every session Live, continuous and in HD. Fans can also get instant access via Foxtel Now, and be signed up and streaming all the action Live within minutes.

In addition to start-to-finish coverage Live from Mount Panorama, the pop up channel will feature several new entertainment programs, a number of old favourites, plus classic races throughout the week.

Jess Yates and Russell Ingall countdown Bathurst’s most unforgettable moments on the all-new Bathurst Top 10 Shootout, at 7.30pm EST on October 2.

Fans can re-live the biggest crashes, the most nail-biting finishes and controversial moments ever seen at The Great Race. Fans can also have their say on what features on the show via a social media poll on FOX Sports’ Facebook page in the lead up to the premiere.

Bathurst Legends returns at 8.30pm to delve into the folklore of The Great Race and some of the most memorable stories to have emerged from the mountain.

This year’s episode takes an in-depth look at 2006; the haunting year that Mount Panorama claimed Mark Porter’s life, Peter Brock passed away, and his mentee, Craig Lowndes went on to claim his second Bathurst victory.

FOX Sports will pay tribute to some of the biggest names to have conquered the mountain in Bathurst Heroes & Legends, premiering on October 3 at 7.30pm.

Neil Crompton will be joined by Allan Moffat, Jim Richards, Fred Gibson, Colin Bond and Mike Raymond for the 60-minute program that will examine some of the finest achievements of these legendary drivers.

Inside Supercars returns at 6.30pm on October 4, with Mark Skaife, Greg Rust, Greg Murphy, Crompton and Yates on hand to preview the action ahead.

Attention turns to the track from October 5, with Skaife and Crompton calling each session, while Ingall and Yates analyse the action and all the big talking points across the weekend.

Then on October 6, Pit Lane Live returns to take viewers behind the scenes as drivers and teams prepare for the biggest race weekend of the year. The show will also feature the Grand Final of the Pirtek Pit Stop Challenge, where the four fastest crews of the 2017 season compete for $25,000 and the Golden Rattle Gun Trophy.

  1. “Live, continuous” coverage is code for split screen with channel 10 advertisments…. same as the last few years.
Can’t wait for the anti-siphoning list to change and the V8 and F1 contracts to be revised (if that ever happens).
Bathurst and the Melbourne GP are both hard to watch, the way Foxtel are forced to show them.

    1. I dislike ads as much as the next person (unless that person happens to be Russel Howcroft) but Bathurst is comfortably 6½ hours from the start of the warm-up lap to the end of the podium. I concede that a commercial broadcaster needs to show some ads during that period.

They can either suspend the TV broadcast each time they go to an ad break so that it gets further and further behind the live event (Seven did this once to howls of protest), cut into the broadcast for a couple of minutes and then replay the important overtake/bingle that invariably happens, or show the ads and race on a split screen.

I think the latter is the least annoying. However, they could improve the layout as there has been a lot of wasted space in previous years. They could divide the screen in half horizontally and show the race picture shrunk to about 75%, cropping off the top which is mostly sky anyway…

      1. Or seeing as this in an article regarding Foxtels broadcast of the event they could do what they do for every other V8, F1 or MotoGP race in the season and go Ad Break Free.

It’s the anti-siphoning list that is stopping this from happening. I’m not annoyed at foxtel in anyway. However what I do find annoying is that channel 10 who show no regard for Motorsport for the rest of the year (although they claim to be the home of Motorsport) get to dictate that a commercial break is shown every 10 minutes or so.

        1. Yes, I understand that this being on the A-S list complicates things but I’m sure that even if it wasn’t, and Foxtel took a direct feed from Supercars TV, they would still want to shows some ads during the 6½ hours.

The rest of the season’s races which you’re saying are ad-break free are, with the exception of Sandown, at the most only a quarter the length of Bathurst.

I agree with you regarding the inaccurately-named “Home of Motorsport”. Their disregard for fans is what impelled me to switch to Foxtel.

          1. trouble is they have ads every 10mis its like 6-8 laps then ads should have 20-30mins racing then ads then 20-30 mins racing not the way they do it now least with foxtel you still see the action i just mute the ads
