A Country Practice shed burns to the ground

'Wandin Valley Fire Brigade' is itself razed to the ground.

A shed used as the Wandin Valley Fire Brigade in iconic 1980s soap A Country Practice has burned to the ground.

The tin shed, known in Pitt Ton, as Bassingwaiths shed, was built in the 1940s but caught fire on Thursday night. Seven rural fire crews attended the scene.

Windsor Fire & Rescue captain Kim Roche said the explosions were due to the vehicles in the shed. “There was an old boat, a tractor, an SUV and a horse float, and about 40 litres of diesel. The explosions would have been from the tyres popping, especially on the tractor, as the tyres are larger.

“The shed was fully involved when we arrived, and had blown the powerlines down on the road.”

Local resident Michael Edwards said, “It’s just so tragic that another chapter of Pitt Town’s history has closed. It really was such an iconic part of the local landscape.”

Last week Oakville homestead “Clare House”, famously used as the “Wandin Valley Bush Nursing Hospital” in A Country Practice went under the auction hammer.

The Seven drama ran from 1981 to 1993.
