AFL Footy Show: grand final

Still awaiting all the details of NRL Grand Final programming, but meanwhile here is what’s going down for AFL Footy Show Grand Final edition.

Is Eddie singing and dancing -and can Rebecca Maddern top her 2016 showstopper?

An unbelievable lineup of the biggest names in music and AFL will join Eddie McGuire, Rebecca Maddern and Sam Newman for an epic celebration of the game we all love this Thursday, September 28, at the special time of 7.30pm on Channel Nine.

No player has had a greater season than Brownlow Medal winner, Dustin Martin. He will appear live on the big stage at Rod Laver Arena as the Tigers prepare for arguably the biggest weekend in the club’s history.

Two extraordinary Grand Final Footy Show panels will include two of the most influential players ever, both retirees and former Norm Smith Medal winners, Luke Hodge and Steve Johnson; one of the biggest characters in the game, Demons ruckman Max Gawn; and two legends of the sport, Footy Show larrikins Shane Crawford and Billy Brownless.

With two of the most passionate fanbases in the competition, the 2017 Grand Final between the Adelaide Crows and Richmond Tigers is shaping as one of the greatest in history. The panel will have all the latest news ahead of the game, plus their tips on who will take out the flag on Saturday.

The senior coaches from both Grand Final sides, Richmond’s Damien Hardwick and Adelaide’s Don Pyke, will be on live on stage to answer all the pressing questions ahead of the Grand Final.

Not one but three Aussie rock legends will bring the house down, with their biggest pub-rock anthems sure to have everyone out of their seats.

Mark Seymour will dedicate Holy Grail to the silver cup Richmond and Adelaide are chasing; Daryl Braithwaite will treat the audience to a soaring rendition of Horses; and Jimmy Barnes will perform two of his greatest classics. Plus, pop superstar Jessica Mauboy will hit the stage to perform her sizzling new hit, Fallen.

One of Australia’s greatest comedians, Dave Hughes, will be live on stage for a special Grand Final stand-up routine that will have everyone in stitches.

The notorious Grand Final Revue returns, always a highlight of the AFL season. Players, both former and present, plus your favourite Footy Show personalities will come together for a show-stopping performance that will have to be seen to be believed. What will Eddie perform for his revue debut? And be sure to stay tuned right to the end for a surprise performance from a familiar face.

All that, plus a lucky fan will win a Lexus in Back Up The Truck, a Grand Final edition of Sam’s Mailbag, and the team looking back on the best Footy Show moments of 2017.

7:30pm Thursday on Nine (Melb, Ade, Per) please check local guides.

  1. Oh look, music acts straight from 1987, just like TFS itself (Not including Jess, but she’ll perform at the opening of an envelope).

    Will be watching Front Bar!

  2. Here in Sydney (and assumingly the same in Brisbane), the show is scheduled for an 11.30pm start. We have the NRL Footy Show that should finish at 10.30pm (which of course, it will run overtime as it has been doing for years now!), and has some show called “Worlds Funniest Videos Top 10” at 10.30 for airs for an hour.

Surely Nine (or Gem) can air this Grand Final Edition of the AFL Footy Show at an earlier time, even if it is straight after the NRL version.

  3. As a PS to my previous comment… I see from re-reading the preview details that Nine’s Footy Show GF special may have a one-hour jump-start on Seven’s Front Bar… so direct comparisons possibly a bit harder, but the respective figures (and for the overlap periods) will be interesting to observe.

  4. Am very curious to see how the AFL Footy Show (GF edition) stacks up against what I believe is a special extended 2-hour GF edition of The Front Bar… I think going out in the same slots too. I predict a win for the GF Footy Show given it’s long history of being a bit of an ‘event show’… but for ratings to be noticeably down on previous year’s edition with the extra competition from Seven’s rival show.
