Airdate: Gulpilil: One Red Blood

NITV doco on David Gulpilil includes interviews with Phillip Noyce, Rolf De Heer, Justine Saunders & Jack Thompson.

Next week NITV screens Gulpilil: One Red Blood, a documentary on veteran Indigenous actor David Gulpilil.

This includes interviews with Phillip Noyce, Rolf De Heer, Justine Saunders and Jack Thompson.

David Gulpilil is one of the most highly respected Aboriginal actors of his generation, and an elder of the Yolgnu clan in Arnhem Land in Northern Australia.

Gulpilil: One Red Blood charts Gulpilil’s career from his origins as a strictly tribal man who spoke no English, through to his transformation to a jet-setting movie star, and how Gulpilil’s acting work declined through the 1980s where he was overlooked for a decade before being thrust back in the spotlight with the release of the films Rabbit Proof Fence and The Tracker.

Hear from acclaimed directors Phillip Noyce and Rolf De Heer, Indigenous activists Marcia Langton and Gary Foley, and industry peers Justine Saunders and Jack Thompson, as well as the women in his life. Interspersed with these interviews are generous clips from just some of the many feature films that defined Gulpilil’s career: Walkabout, Mad Dog Morgan, Storm Boy, Crocodile Dundee, Rabbit Proof Fence, and The Tracker.

Wednesday, 27 September at 8.00pm on NITV.
