Axed: Julia Louis-Dreyfus to end Veep with Season 7

US comedy Veep will end its run with a final seventh season in 2018.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus has told the Hollywood Reporter that she and fellow executive producer David Mandel thought long and hard about when to wrap the hit series.
“It became clear that this season should be the last season,” Louis-Dreyfus says. “We don’t want to repeat ourselves or wear out our welcome. The story has a finality to it that feels end-of-series.”
“Let’s face it, this has been a role of a lifetime,” she added.
Veep, created by Armando Iannucci, has been a rare post-Seinfeld hit for Louis-Dreyfus, after previous outings in The New Adventures of Old Christine and assorted projects for her former cast mates.
She has won five consecutive Emmys for outstanding lead actress for Veep and is up for a sixth this month, while the show has won two Best Comedy trophies.
That leaves 10 more episodes before Selina Meyer bids farewell.
“It was just a very natural thing,” Mandel added. “We don’t want to repeat ourselves or be boring. It’s bittersweet but it’s right.”

Yeah that the thing it is finishing on a high rather than go on and on …… A sensible move in one way
7 seasons and out is fairly common in US TV. It generally gives a program enough episodes for syndication packages to be available, and often there are big $$ negotiations for the main cast to proceed beyond 7 year contracts.

Giving JLD enough time to get ready to run in the actual 2020 election.
Is it really “axed” when they choose to end it on their own terms? It’s not like it’s chopped off mid-run.
Headline makes that clear. In the end someone calls time on the show, but site terms such as axed, renewed, returning etc are useful for archival and SEO purposes.
