Jim Carrey just Kidding with new comedy series

10 part comedy marks a return to TV for Jim Carrey, on Stan in 2018.

Jim Carrey is headed back to the small screen with a 10×30 minute comedy to be produced for Showtime.

Kidding will mark the first series-regular role in more than two decades for Carrey, who already executive produces drama I’m Dying Up Here.

The project sees him star as Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, an icon of children’s television, a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America’s impressionable young minds and the parents who grew up with him – who also anchors a multimillion-dollar branding empire. But when this beloved personality’s family – wife, two sons, sister and father – begins to implode, Jeff finds no fairy tale or fable or puppet will guide him through the crisis.

Created by Dave Holstein (Weeds, Raising Hope) and to be directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Kidding will be executive produced by Carrey with Gondry and Jason Bateman, amongst others.

“No one inhabits a character like Jim Carrey, and this role – which is like watching Humpty Dumpty after the fall – is going to leave television audiences wondering how they went so long without him,” said David Nevins, President and CEO of Showtime Networks. “With his Eternal Sunshine partner Michel Gondry on board to direct, we are on our way to a magnetic, volcanic and emotional viewing experience.”

As a Showtime title, Kidding will air on Stan in 2018, who also screen  I’m Dying Up Here in Australia.
