Miss Fisher feature turns to crowdfunding

"We need your help to fund a gap in our financing," say producers ahead of 2018 filming.

The feature film of Miss Fisher has turned to Kickstarter crowdfunding to fill a funding gap.

Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears
is planning to film in 2018 and hoping for a 2019 big screen release.

“We’re finalising the film script of Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears – and we want to bring you along for the adventure – but, we need your help to fund a gap in our financing, and prove to our investors that we have a strong fan-base who will come out to watch the film,” producers Every Cloud Productions stated.

The film, to star Essie Davis and Nathan Page, will film in Melbourne and is considering locations in Morocco, Israel, and London.

The hit ABC series enjoyed three seasons on ABC and has sold to 247 territories, but has not been renewed. A prequel series, Miss Fisher’s First Murder Mysteries, is in development.

“We always had grand plans to bring Miss Fisher to the big screen. She’s a natural action hero – the female version of James Bond or Indiana Jones. After season 3 premiered in Australia 2 years ago, the desire for Miss Fisher didn’t die down, and as our cast and crew went off to do different parts of the world, all the while we continued to develop the idea of turning Miss Fisher into a movie,” producers continued.

“After much scripting and development later we’re finally here, but to make the leap to the big screen we need your support to prove to our investors that we have a strong fan-base that will come out and watch the film. We see crowdfunding as a great way to engage further with you – the incredible Miss Fisher fans around the world. We want to share this experience with you all and take you along for the ride.”

The rewards for donors, ranging from $10 – $6000+, include top end goodies including individualised messages from cast, set visits, extras casting, luncheons, screenings and wardrobe gifts. If the campaign is not successful, all monies pledged are refundable.

Every Cloud Productions is yet to confirm its other investors.

Set in the late 1920’s, Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears honors the heightened exoticisms of the murder mystery genre as the Honourable Miss Phryne Fisher, lady detective, escapes the small screen and takes off on a global adventure – via romantic wayside stops in the Far East, glamorous sojourns in the mansions of London, and a battle to survive the rolling sands of the Arabian Desert long enough to find the missing treasure, solve numerous murders and break all aviation records as she wings her way home again!

    1. Wrong. Miss Fisher has many fans all over the world. As shown by 336k already having been raised and 3400 people donating to get the movie made. This is 86k more raised than they needed and there is still 27 days of the campaign to go. Imagine how much they are going to raise by the end?

    1. I couldn’t have said it better. I think it’s pathetic and totally unacceptable for established companies to resort to crowdfunding. If they haven’t made enough money after selling the programme overseas, to streaming services, through home media and downloads, then a movie should be out of the question unless the brand can sustain itself financially.
