Nick Jr. pulls “inappropriate” Peppa Pig episode
A 2004 episode with Peppa handling a spider is still way too risky for Aussie ankle-biters.

A 2004 episode of Peppa Pig banned by ABC, because it included inappropriate messages regarding spiders, has now been pulled by Pay TV channel Nick Jr.
In the episode Peppa’s brother George finds a spider in a bathroom sink and takes it to Peppa’s dollhouse and tucking it into bed. Whilst Peppa is initially alarmed at the size of the spider, she too befriends Mr. Skinny Legs.
Daddy Pig tells Peppa that spiders are “very very small” and “can’t hurt you.”
In 2012 an ABC viewer complained after it aired online, which ABC attributed to “a technical problem.”
“The ABC considered the episode unsuitable for broadcast in Australia and it had been restricted from being aired on the ABC’s television networks,” ABC said at the time.
But the episode aired on Nick Jr. in August and told one viewer who complained, “The context of the way the spider is portrayed in the episode lessens any impact of scariness or danger; the spider does not look real, it has a smiley face and is shown in context of a show with other talking animals and therefore in an environment where the animals and creatures are not shown acting out their real nature.”
But after being contacted by media, Nick Jr has reversed its decision.
You can see the offending episode here.
Warning: Do not attempt to handle spiders within the home. Pigs running around in dresses is fine, just not spiders.

Humphrey and Fat Cat didn’t talk and we all wanted a bear and a large cat back in the day
After continually finding my 2 year old son playing with spiders my husband and I were thrilled when he suddenly started being scared of them because Rubble from Paw Patrol is scared of spiders. I would have been furious if the Peppa Pig episode had convinced him that they won’t hurt him!
People are becoming such babies. There is nothing wrong with the episode. Everyone needs to grow up and get a life.
For parents with young kids it does raise concerns. Arachnids for more deadly in Oz than UK.
Pathetic.
Thank god we have vigilant(e) members of the public who are prepared to spend their valuable time to prevent everyone else from watching dangerous television because we’re too silly to be able to make up our own minds.
ACA consistently rates ~ Top 5.
Just sayin’ …
My kids watch paw patrol and blaze and the monster machines. At no point have they tried to get my dog to fly off the second story or have asked why my 4×4 doesn’t talk and climb the sides of buildings. Foxtel listen to one persons complaint about 1 episode on one channel but the don’t listen to the majority of there customers telling them to drop the $10 HD charge.
Nick Jr is not owned by Foxtel.
Nick Jr is not a HD channel on Foxtel and the $10 HD charge can easily be removed from your monthly bill with one simple phone call to Foxtel.
Thanks for the info David. Blake, the point of the comment was the extremes of complaints people make and the outcomes, that’s all. Back to the Peppa story, just saw an ad for Spider-Man of XD ,should that be banned as well?
So what’s the point in pulling this “inappropriate” episode when you can probably watch it via DVD, streaming or downloading. It’s all just a bit absurd when you think about it.
How ridiculous. I watched it and enjoyed Mr Skinny legs.
Maybe we should ban all Peppa Pig episodes. After all, we shouldn’t teach our kids that animals speak English. The wee little kids might not understand why their pet doesn’t talk back.
