One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel for Netflix

Sarah Paulson will portray a young Nurse Ratched in new Ryan Murphy series.

It’s medication time….

Prolific producer Ryan Murphy has yet another series in the pipeline with a One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel.

Ratched, revolving around the character of Nurse Ratched, has landed at a two-season, 18-episode order.

Murphy-favourite Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story, The People vs OJ Simpson) has the lead role of Nurse Ratched, originally portrayed by Louise Fletcher in the 1975 feature.

The story begins in 1947 and follows Ratched‘s journey and evolution from nurse to monster. The show will follow her deadly progression through the mental health care system.

Michael Douglas, who produced the original film adaptation, is on board as an executive producer with a script by Evan Romansky.

Production will begin in the middle of 2018 after the third season of the American Crime Story franchise, Katrina, with Murphy directing the pilot.

  1. Sounds alright, at least we may get to see Sarah Paulson in a Ryan Murphy show without being a screaming, crying, hysterical mess evey American Horror Story.

  2. Eclectic producers must be loving the potential of Netflix’s money and having the opportunity to create big budget versions of their pet projects which would take some time to find finance for elsewhere and perhaps may never be made for FTA TV or movie theatres. This Ratched show looks interesting though even if it still follows the well used criminal-horror genre Netflix thinks its loyal audiences go for.
