Erin Molan will host 9GEM coverage of the Fast5 Netball World Series from Melbourne’s Hisense Arena.

Erin Molan will host 9GEM coverage of the Fast5 Netball World Series from tomorrow, with commentary from Liz Ellis, Sharelle McMahon, Cath Cox, Anne Sargeant, Jenny Woods and Sue Gaudion.

Nine’s Director of Sport, Tom Malone, said: “A tremendous first season for netball on the Wide World of Sports will be capped off with the most electrifying format there is in prime-time. Our Fast5 Netball broadcast will feature the best commentators in the world combined with the best players in the world as they compete in this rapid format, live and free for viewers.”

Nine’s Head of Netball, Keeley Devery, said: “We’re all geared up for a spectacular weekend of netball in the short form, with over 15 hours of the Fast5 World Series featuring some of the biggest names in the game. This modern concept, which includes the fun-filled celebrity match, is set to showcase all the best elements of the game under the one roof on 9GEM, so don’t miss any of the action across the weekend.”

 

The exciting five-a-side series at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena will pit the top six international netball teams (Australia, Jamaica, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Malawi) against each other in a ferociously fast-paced, two-day tournament.

Starring in the 24-minute games will be world-class netballers such as Australian Diamonds Gretel Tippett, Kate Moloney and Paige Hadley, New Zealand captain Storm Purvis, England’s Super Netball star trio Geva Mentor, Jo Harten and Serena Guthrie, and Jamaican shooter Jhaniele Fowler-Reid.

The Celebrity Fast5 Match will also return – featuring some of TV’s biggest stars, including The Block’s Dan Reilly, Getaway’s Catriona Rowntree, athletics star John Steffensen, Family Food Fight judge Hayden Quinn, Nine News weather presenter Livinia Nixon, as well as Australian Ninja Warrior’s Ashlin Herbert and Georgia Bonora, along with other special guests.

They will be joined by netball stars Kim Green, Caitlin Bassett and Laura Langman in what will undeniably be a highly competitive yet very amusing version of the FAST5 game.

Rules of Fast5:

· Each game is played over 4 x 6-minute quarters
· Teams consist of 5 players on court – GS, GA, C, GD, GK
· There are three shooting areas with goals worth 1, 2 or 3 points
· Teams can select one quarter as their “power-play” quarter with all goals worth double points
· Unlimited rolling substitutions may be made during play
