Axed: Chelsea Handler wraps Netflix talk show

Talk show host to turn her attention to a doco on the worrying state of US politics.

Chelsea Handler’s Netflix talk show Chelsea is ending after 2 seasons.

As the streaming giant’s first talk show, the series debuted in 2016 as 90×30 mins before switching to an hour per week in April.

Handler announced while she decided not to return she is planning to focus on activism, writing a book and partnering with Netflix on a documentary that tackles the current political climate.

New Chelsea episodes will continue until the end of the year.

“Like so many across the country, the past presidential election and the countless events that have unfolded since have galvanized me,” Handler wrote on Facebook. “From the national level down to the grassroots, it’s clear our decisions at the ballot box next year will mark a defining moment for our nation.

“For these reasons, I’ve decided not to return for another season of Chelsea, and instead devote as much time as I can to becoming a more knowledgeable and engaged citizen and to focus on projects that have significance to me. My goal is to be better informed, raise my voice, and participate in a more meaningful way. I want to travel the country and visit areas and people I don’t know enough about, speak at colleges and listen to students, and gain a better understanding of our political divide. I have joined forces with EMILY’s List to elect more women to public office, register people to vote, and campaign for candidates who are fighting for women’s rights.

“I’m excited to share that I will continue my partnership with Netflix, working together on a documentary where I’ll engage with people I don’t talk with enough – people of different ethnicities, religions and political philosophies. Netflix could not be more understanding, and I’m grateful for their continued support. New episodes of Chelsea will continue to stream weekly until the end of this year.”

  1. Your stats are wrong and misleading. All the major late night talk shows combined are only getting just above what Jay Leno’s show got alone. The ratings certainly aren’t getting any better nor are the award shows hosted by these pretend “comedians”. Look it up.

  2. Talk shows used to be about actual entertainment now the majority of them have same repetitive political far left wing agendas, no wonder their losing ratings. Chelsea Handler is quitting because she can’t understand that many Americans have a vastly different opinion to her on politics. She’s completely out of touch with mainstream society.

    1. The reality is that since Trump took office, the so-called “far left wing/political” talk shows are proving much more popular.

Colbert’s political-leaning Late Show is averaging a million more viewers than a year ago and now has a commanding lead over Fallon’s apolitical Tonight Show. Since attacking health care Kimmel’s up in key demos too. Full Frontal w/Sam Bee ratings have more than doubled. Last Week Tonight w/John Oliver well up compared to seasons 1 and 2. But why let facts get in the way of a good old anti-lefty rant in the comments section?
