Kevin Spacey denied International Emmy honour

Honour due in November is no more as Kevin Spacey's house of cards topples.

House of Cards star Kevin Spacey will not be receiving the Emmy Founders Award he was due to receive on November 20th in New York.

“The International Academy has announced today that in light of recent events it will not honor Kevin Spacey with the 2017 International Emmy Founders Award,” the Academy said in a brief statement.

The announcement follows allegations levelled at Spacey surrounding actor Anthony Rapp, then 14, when the 26 year old actor sexually assaulted him at a party in 1986.

Following Spacey’s statement he was apologetic for “inappropriate drunken behavior” he did not recall.

Netflix has since confirmed the current season in production will be its last, noting, “Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey.”

Other profile actors have slammed Spacey’s statement, in which he came out as a gay man, including Zachary Quinto, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Wanda Sykes, Rosie O’Donnell, Rose McGowan and George Takei.

There is already speculation about further allegations associated to Spacey, but none he has directly addressed.

Meanwhile Spacey reportedly also has a Netflix film in the works, Gore, in which he plays Gore Vidal. It’s described as: “A young man spends a summer in Italy where he meets his idol, Gore Vidal, who teaches him about life, love, and politics.”

Past recipients of the International Emmy Founders Award include Roone Arledge, David L. Wolper, Don Hewitt, Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Dick Wolf, Ryan Murphy, Norman Lear, J.J. Abrams, Shonda Rhimes and, back in 1992, Bill Cosby.

  1. Rapp didn’t allege a sexual assault in the Buzz Feed article, he described it as an “advance”. What he said was, “He was trying to seduce me […] I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually.” The main issue is that Rapp was 14. Media has made vague speculations about possible more serious allegation but nothing has been made public. Most of the criticism in the media since has been at Spacey for finally admitting he was gay in his apology (after Buzz Feed outed him). Spacey apparently committed a major breach of Homosexual etiquette. Go the media!
