More stars speak out over Hollywood abuse

Lena Headey, Reece Witherspoon, America Ferrera speak out. Amazon Studios boss quits, Bob Weinstein denies allegations.

The fallout from sexual harassment following Harvey Weinstein headlines continue, with more high profile women detailing abuse during their careers.

Bob Weinstein, brother of the disgraced mogul, has also been implicated after Amanda Segel, an executive producer of Mist, said Weinstein repeatedly made romantic overtures to her and asked her to join him for private dinners.

Segel told Variety. “After ‘no,’ anybody who has asked you out should just move on. Bob kept referring to me that he wanted to have a friendship. He didn’t want a friendship. He wanted more than that. My hope is that ‘no’ is enough from now on.”

A representative for Bob Weinstein denied the claims, saying “Bob Weinstein had dinner with Ms. Segel in LA in June 2016. He denies any claims that he behaved inappropriately at or after the dinner. It is most unfortunate that any such claim has been made.”

Spike TV in a statement said: “We take all allegations of this nature very seriously, and are investigating.”

Lena Headey, who plays Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones alleged a disturbing incident with Harvey Weinstein, through her Twitter account.

“At one point Harvey asked me to take a walk down to the water, I walked down with him and he stopped and made some suggestive comment, a gesture,” she wrote. She says she was shocked but laughed it off with a joke. “I was never in any other Miramax film.”

But years later he asked her to a breakfast meeting where he allegedly told her, “Let’s go up to the room, I want to give you a script.” She says that as they walked to the elevator, “the energy shifted” and her “whole body went into high alert.”

“The lift was going up and I said to Harvey, ‘I’m not interested in anything other than work, please don’t think I got in here with you for any other reason, nothing is going to happen,'” she recalled, explaining, “I don’t know what possessed me to speak out at that moment, only that I had such a strong sense of don’t come near me.”

She claims his response was silence and that he was “furious.”

She alleges, “We got out of the lift and walked to his room. His hand was on my back, he was marching me forward, not a word. I felt completely powerless, he tried his key card and it didn’t work, then he got really angry. He walked me back to the lift, through the hotel to the valet, by grabbing and holding tightly to the back of my arm, he paid for my car and whispered in my ear, ‘Don’t tell anyone about this, not your manager, not your agent.'”

She ended the post by saying, “I got into my car and I cried.”

Reece Witherspoon has said she was assaulted at age 16 by a director in one of several instances in her career.

Witherspoon said in a speech at the Elle Women In Hollywood Awards that she feels “true disgust at the director who assaulted me when I was 16-years-old and anger at the agents and the producers who made me feel that silence was a condition of my employment.

“And I wish that I could tell you that was an isolated incident in my career, but sadly it wasn’t. I’ve had multiple experiences of harassment and sexual assault and I don’t speak about them very often.”

America Ferrera (Ugly Betty, Superstore) took to her Instagram to reveal “First time I can remember being sexually assaulted I was 9-years-old,” she wrote. “I told no one and lived with the shame and guilt thinking all along that I, a 9-year-old child, was somehow responsible for the actions of a grown man.

“I had to see this man on a daily basis for years to come. He would smile at me and wave, and I would hurry past him, my blood running cold, my guts carrying the burden of what only he & I knew — that he expected me to shut my mouth and smile back.”

As the revelations continue to engulf Hollywood, Roy Price has exited Amazon Studios, where he served until recently as president.

The departure from Amazon follows Price’s suspension last week from the tech giant’s entertainment division on the heels of renewed sexual harassment allegations.
