Broadchurch star to replace Claire Foy on Netflix hit series.

Olivia Colman will replace Claire Foy in The Crown.

Colman (Broadchurch, The Night Manager) will take over the role of Queen Elizabeth for seasons 3 and 4 of the Netflix series.

Each season follows roughly a decade in the life of the Queen, and producers planned from the outset to recast their lead roles after season 2. The new season is expected to roughly cover from 1957 to 1964.

Foy returns for season 2 on December 8th, joined by Matt Smith (Prince Philip), Vanessa Kirby (Princess Margaret), Victoria Hamilton (the Queen Mother), and Jeremy Northam (Antony Eden) are also expected to return. J

Joining the cast for the new episodes are Matthew Goode (Lord Snowdon, a photographer married Princess Margaret) and Michael C. Hall (John F. Kennedy).

  1. I subscribed to Netflix only because I wanted to watch the first series of The Crown and absolutely loved every second of it. I’m going to binge watch the first series again just before the 2nd series screens which I can’t wait for. Such a shame they’re replacing Foy. She was brilliant playing the Queen. Colman looks nothing like her.

  2. Why couldn’t they just use makeup on Claire Foy to age her appropriately? Recasting seems a bit unnecessary. If they are trying to cast appropriately for age then good luck trying to find an actress to play the Queen Mother in her later years.

  3. Hmmm… not sure how I feel about this. Will have to wait and see how it goes. I love watching Claire Foy and Matt smith in the crown tho. They truly make the show for me.
