Sci-fi series Roswell gets reboot

1999 series set against the backdrop of New Mexico UFO incident is to be reborn.

US sci-fi Roswell is getting a reboot some 16 years after it departed screens.

The original series, based on the Roswell High books, aired from 1999 – 2002 with a cast including Shiri Appleby, Jason Behr, Katherine Heigl, Colin Hanks, Emilie de Ravin and Adam Rodríguez.

According to Variety the new series for The CW would follow the daughter of undocumented immigrants who reluctantly returns to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico.

There she discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: he’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance.

Carina Adly MacKenzie (The Originals) will write and executive produce.

  1. I agree, it doesn’t sound like the original series. That’s possibly a good thing as it means they’re not really trying to remake yet another show. Wish they wouldn’t connect shows with old ones though, even if they are taking inspiration from them. Makes people compare the shows (which they probably would have anyway due to the alien & Roswell connections) which isn’t fair on the new one

  2. Doesn’t really sound much like the original series which was a late teen drama-that started out interestingly but degenerated in later seasons before cancellation.
